Monday, January 10, 2011: 3 Voices in a Song
Native Dean, a Muslim band in the united created a song called 'My Faith' and are singing about having the right to be whatever they want and that people are making them look bad like a priest who caused much tension towards Muslims in the U.S.A. To quote the chorus '
its... my faith, my voice,its... my faith, my voice, Don't care what they say, this is my voice.... my faith, my voice.' This repeats about how people make fun of the and part of the song. 'Please don't let this, be a Muslim.' represents that if someone wanted to convert the wouldn't allow them, like Christians in America against Muslims in America. In their video they are wearing black on white contrasting them to America and how people think of them as 'dirt' or 'mud' this drives their message home when they say that 'I can be what I want!'
Tuesday, November 30, 2010: Hand Over Death
|
The light is fading as we get farther away, this
signifies that the village was once a nice place
but it is sinking into darkness within three
hours, the fruits of some mass murderers
labours. |
Picasso's Guernica, a painting of death and destruction in the time of the Spanish civil war. I believe that war is no game, whether it be a game of chess or a made up game or even the real thing, it is no game. War is an abomination, an excuse to kill and commit crimes, rape, murder, poisoning. In the quote, Everything is fair, in love and war, by John Lyly in 1578. Why did I chose this, because it ties in with the rest, In the Guernica it says that they used an inhabited village as target practice and over 1600 people burned to death. On that day, that squadron became mass murderers, and did the law care? No! And it's because of that, that I tell you Everything is fair, in love and war no matter what is done.
Tuesday, November 30, 2010: Hey, Hey, How are you?
|
Light at the end of the tunnel, that is the point here light at the end
despite the overwhelming weight overhead. |
What does this mean? I believe this is a subtle message to all of Myamar. I believe this means what is your life like? Do you like it? Are you rich or poor? I think it is a question asking 'Do you still want to live like this? Hence Hey, How are you. Thxa Soa, a pop star for the Burmese youth is both clever and smart. He is subtly spreading the word about the Burmese Junta, but 'A victim of his own success, the government monitors his songs and actions, banning most of his albums. We are never told what the name of the song Hey, How are you, actually means. I can't connect with knowing that he is much braver than me, he has revitalized his country's youth and now he is at risk. Why do I say I can't connect. Because Thxa Soa is like Aung Sang Suu Kyi, Both brave and smart.
Nov.11: Fatmire Feka, The Spark that Ignites
|
Lightning is a huge force but is a spark in
a fire, Fatmire Feka is that spark that started it all. |
Fatmire Feka, an inspiration, the spark that ignited the battle for peace in a troubled region. Fatmire lived in Kosovo, a village troubled by racial discrimination when the thunderstorm arrived. The Serbs, a minority of the Kosovoan population have a 'liberation army come in and destroy the village. Fatmire escapes in a tractor and arrives at a dump. A month later they try to leave and her brother and sister go missing when she is forced back to the dump where everything was stolen. Later, much later Fatmire is giving speeches all around the world and she is asking "Why, why should we forgive the perpetrators who destroyed my live?" Fatmire Feka is one of 100 women for peace and still she can't forgive because she doesn't know where her brother and sister are, she probably never will. She gives peace speeches all over the place and she doesn't forgive. Fatmire Feka, the spark that ignited the roaring fire for peace in Kosovo. Kosovo will never again be a warzone.

FOG OF WAR
|
A trireme, to symbolize Themistocles'
success against the Persians and their gigantic
fleet. The fog of war is a deception, and
truth is the first casualty! |
I chose the title FOG OF WAR because fog make it difficult to see and you might think you see something when really it isn't there. I think this is an interesting metaphor especially since
Aeschylus, born 525 B.C. -456 B.C. said
"In war, Truth is the first casualty." Aeschylus was a Greek tragedian/playwright who was influenced by the
Persian invasion of
Greece when
Themistocles fought and beat the Persians on two occasions. Through my researching of philosophies I came upon all these different people and times and places. I have reason to believe Aeschylus created his philosophy "In war, Truth is the first casualty." and why he created a play about the achievements of Themistocles. In particular I think his philosophy of "In war, Truth is the first casualty." was inspired by Themistocles' success against the superior Persian fleet.
